Abstract

The Process Engineer’s Automated Workplace (PEAW) software has been designed to computerize the process engineers’ work in Transneft. One of the PEAW software’s tasks is to automate and optimize the planning of pipeline process sections’ operations in order to enhance energy efficiency. A pumping mode of a specific pipeline section depends on the pumps in operation and the shut valves’ positions, and is described through such parameters as pressure, pumping output rate, electricity consumption, oil properties etc. Expenditure on electricity consumed during the pumping depends on the selected combination of operated equipment. The PEAW software allows to calculate a series of possible pumping modes for oil and petroleum products and then to arrange these different modes into a sequence of the pipeline section’s operating schedule so as to pump the relevant amount of crude oil within the given period of time with minimum electricity consumption.
