Abstract
Leak detection for pipelines has ever since been a necessary and important issue for safety of people, environment and the lines themselves. As the industry is facing new challenges over the years like product theft on pipelines, also the technologies for detecting and locating leaks or drilling spots have to evolve to match these tasks. GOTTSBERG Leak Detection, one of the leading developers of leak detection pigs, has therefore presented their new generation of leak detection tools. With completely new developed electronics like amplifiers, data processing filters as well as current high resolution hardware like hydrophones and pressure sensors, the tool has become much more sensitive. The already very precise technology with a certified minimum leak rate of 6.8 l/hr is now even more enhanced. Additionally some complete new features like an IMU have been implemented to gather extra data for more information that not only relates to leak detection purposes. With new localization features the tools are now able to pinpoint the leaks and other interesting anomalies within 2 m independent of the total length of the pipeline. The presentation will give a short overview of challenges pipeline operators are facing nowadays. Based on this information it will give an outlook on how to cope with them and how the latest generation of GLD leak detection pigs can help. The new technology will be summarized and the focus will be placed on the solving of the leak detection tasks.
